Offline Marketing
Part of having an Internet business is: You are in Business.
Your advertising is not limited to the Internet. Yes, your product is a digital software product. However, there are
many people with computers that you can reach out to even though they are not on line at the moment ☺
You must get business cards. Some of the best ways to do a business card is get creative. Get a business card that
has a hot headline on the front with smaller print with (for more information, turn me over) ...
Then put more information and your contact information on the back.
And, of course your website url. Get an 800 number if you can. It makes you look way more professional. (I put
mine in with my bills. Heck, I teach marketing! Some poor little underpaid soul might like learning how to get a
better way to improving his/her life. Besides, it is all fair in love an war. When was the last time you got a credit
card statement without a bunch of stuff to buy?)
You can advertise with flyers (if allowed in your town)
You can use bulletin boards at your local store
How about a car magnet or a bumper sticker?
Newspaper ads in your local newspaper can be an option too.
You can use personalized candy bars.
I saw a person telling in a book to buy $1.00 bills from the bank then use a rubber stamp to stamp your company
on it. I will not advise that. I quickly did a little research to see what that was all about. What I found was people
were using dollar bills and bigger denominations to put out a message such a "Bring Hemp Back" or “George
Washington grew hemp” or “Stop Abortion” or “Legalize Abortion”.
Anyway, what I saw were ad campaigns and even a few warnings about not putting your phone number or name
and address on one.
So, sometimes when you see something that you are not sure of, check into it. Sure, it may be the truth. You may
not get in trouble, but is it worth the risk?
The collection of bills I saw did not have a way to reach the "culprit" who stamped them.
Purchasing Ads in other People's Ezines
You will note that I did not put this is in as in as a top way to advertise. I'm going to leave this option up to you.
And, a lot of this depends on the "kind of product" you are offering and who has the newsletters that you are
"thinking" about purchasing ads in.
I will tell you right now that I have never had any success in purchasing ads in newsletters, and I will tell you I have
had a few friends who have had decent results. And, some who have just broken even.
Picture this scenario: You are an ezine owner and you have 6,000 subscribers. You find a hot product to tell them
about. You affiliate and send them a single mailing to tell them about the hot product.
You make 100 sales, at say a $15.00 commission. That is $1,500.00 (why would you let people pay you $80.00
for a solo ad to your readers?)
What is the worse case scenario for a list of 6,000 people? Only one percent purchase? So sixty people purchase
at 15 x sixty. Okay, what if only six people purchase from the list and you make 15 x 6 : That is a really poor list,
by the way as far as a list where people purchase from you.
Let's think about it. You are an ezine owner with six thousand readers who you have built a relationship with. You
don't want to send too many ads or too many solo mailings to them or they will leave you!
They will also simply stop reading the email that says "Solo Ad" or "Special Ad" Because, they will soon learn you
are simply only sending them ads so you can make money.
So, as an ezine owner, you have to decide when and how to send your customers offers. The offers should fit in
with what they are doing. The offers should be rare enough so that, when they do come in, they have a strong
impact.
A solo ad has a tremendous impact with your own list, provided you don't go sending them nothing but solo ads.
Imagine reading your favorite list and they put in a little ad, here and there in their weekly newsletter. You might
go; you might not go. It all depends on how attractive the little ad is to you.
But, suddenly after about four or five issues you get a full page solo ad from your trusted person whom you
receive the newsletter from and he tells you an awesome opportunity is a must see. Hey, if he has not bombarded
you with these solo mailings, you will go look! If he does it all the time and does not give you good value for being
his reader, eventually you'll leave his list.
I imagine you have experienced this before?
I don't know if you have been on any lists to experience how many emails you get from some marketers but, after
a while, I just unsubscribe. It's like they teach me nothing, show me nothing, help me with nothing, but want to sell
me something three or four times per week. That is just too much!
So, if you pay for ads in ezines, start out with small ones. It's so frustrating to throw away $100.00 on a solo ad.
But, if you find little small ads that you can run for, say, $10.00 or so, you can do that to test your headlines or
your ad copy. You can check how many clicks come through.
If you want your ad in an ezine, write an article. Pay to have an article written.
Buying Leads!
Oh, how exciting. They are all over the place, buy leads set them up
with your autoresponder and rake in the bucks!
NO, NO, NO!
It's dangerous. You can be knocked off your ISP. You can get your domain banned. You mostly just make
people mad.
