What are ‘regular’ search engines?
Well, we talked about Overture (Yahoo! Search Marketing) and Google for pay-per-click engines.
They are also regular search engines. There are a lot of search engines.
You will see many advertisements for, “we put your ad into 1,000's of search engines! Pay us such and such
money to do that for you!”
There are a lot of search engines, but there are only some really top ones that really make a difference.
The 1,000's of links generally, mean FFA (free for all pages) and other places where they will submit your
advertisement.
You simply need to learn some tricks of the trade for all search engines.

will find their favorite search engines.
Okay, here are the basic things you really need to learn for all search engines.
Yes, different search engines have different criteria, however you will be safe if you do the following things to your
site:
• Keywords
• Content
• Get people to link their sites to you
• Submit your sites by hand.
You need keywords. There is no way around that. If you want the search engines to crawl your site when a
person clicks on your subject, you want them to find you.
The more helpful content that you have on your site, the better it looks to the spiders that crawl your site.
The more links you have from other people with similar sites or with your keywords, the better your site will look
to those spiders.
This was talked about in setting up your site Volume IV.
Your title should have your keywords, your opening statement should have the keywords that you want the
spiders to find you. You can switch your keywords around because there are all kinds of ways for people to
search your keywords.
Example:

Most editors write Font size = 12 or something of that nature and spiders can pass that up. The spider bots find it
fast if you use

We talked about Meta Tags in setting up your site. Some search engines ignore them. Others use them. If you use
your meta tags, do not spam the engines. You cannot put in "potty training rabbits, rabbits, rabbits, rabbits,
rabbits, potty, potty, potty.
This is very much frowned on!
However, it does not hurt to repeat in your title for the meta tags to make a little longer title. NOT super-long,
mind you but ten words maximum.
Now, I do not want you wasting a lot of time trying to get in top position in the search engines! You are going to

term can also be a powerful position. People shop in different ways.
They do not shop just like you. Yes, there will be people who shop with your habits, but it is a HUGE world out
there.
You have many types of buyers:
• cautious
• harried
• impulse shoppers
• bargain shoppers
• hesitant shoppers
• ‘Put it aside for later’ shoppers
And, on this list can go. You can think of others, I am sure you can!
Maybe, I didn't even put the kind you are on the list. Or maybe, some days, you are in a hurry and you don't have
time to compare prices or what you get for your money, or maybe you have only so much money to buy what you
need this week, so you really want to compare.
Remember, you have your own product, and it is your BUSINESS to get a "bead on your target market." This all
comes from testing.
